With 1 billion users per month, it’s clear that Google Maps is at least powerful enough to satisfy most users. However, most of them have not realized that the app is a lot more. Indeed, there are also a great number of useful settings that most users have never touched.
As a result, they’re missing out on the benefits that these provide. If you don’t want to be one of these users, read on. This article will list and detail 5 useful Google Map settings.
1. Use Voice Commands
It’s never a good idea to look at your phone while you’re driving. However, your Google Maps app likely exists on such a device. You’ll also likely need to use it to help guide you while you drive.
Therefore, it seems inevitable that you’ll have to turn your eyes away from the road. You have to see where you’re going and enter driving directions, after all.
You don’t have to do this. You can instead use the voice commands that come with the Maps app. These include ones that help you find restaurants, get home, and more.
2. Save Locations You Frequent
Are there some places that you visit frequently? Do you type in their addresses every time? You don’t have to do this.
One of Google Maps’ customization tools allows you to save certain places. Just click on a place’s name on the bottom of the app screen. Then, find the ‘Save’ option on the menu.
You can now add a location to a list. This can be the default ‘Favorites’ list or a list you name yourself.
3. Add More Stops
Maps can give you more than driving directions to a single stop. There’s a way to map out a journey with several ones.
Type in your first destination. After, touch the three-dot menu to the right of the field. The menu should have an ‘add stop’ option.
Once you fill that in, you’ll have the option to make another. Add as many stops as you need. You can also reorder them if you wish.
4. Know the Busy Times
Going to a place when it’s crowded can be annoying. You may wait in long lines and struggle to walk around a business.
You may wish that you had waited for the crowds to die down at home. Of course, then you wouldn’t know the busy status of a business.
The Maps app can tell you this. Tapping on a business will pull up a window that describes the business. If you scroll down, you’ll see a bar graph that tells you the popular times.
5. Get Your Business Noticed
Do you own a business but are having trouble attracting customers? Consider filling out a Google My Business page. This will help your business show up in the Google Map search bar.
